#LinkedInSports Day 2️⃣6️⃣: What are ways that the sports industry can improve DEI efforts?
The first thing that comes to mind is to LISTEN.
Seems pretty basic, but it's something that I've tried to do a better job of the past few years. There are various groups of people that feel undervalued and misrepresented, both in the sports industry and in our society as a whole today. And the only way for someone to understand how to help, is by listening.
Another easy solution is to ACKNOWLEDGE more holidays. I became aware of this by doing the first thing, listening!
Having traveled to nearly 40 countries, I've been able to experience a wide variety of cultures. You'd be surprised at how many celebrations or holidays exist that you have never heard of! Just because it's not on the "official holiday list" here in the states doesn't mean it's not important. The lack of acknowledgement can be related to a lack of diversity. Whether it's background, race, religion, disability or other. If a day is important to a group of people, it should be acknowledged.
