FreeGame Mgmt -- Looking Back at September
College athletes are back on campus and fully into preseason workouts. Professional players are reporting overseas and beginning their seasons. High school recruiting continues to pick up. Before we know it, real games will be here. Here’s a look back at what we were up to this month!
Industry Updates & Education
Eligibility chaos continues to be one of the biggest topics we are following. Lawsuits around the country are challenging the NCAA’s new eligibility framework, particularly as athletes from the 2022 high school class fight for a fifth season. With the season opener approaching, athletes, schools and coaches still don't know exactly who will be eligible to play. That's a shame for everyone involved, and the NCAA should be embarrassed that there is still this much uncertainty.

And apparently following college sports now also requires watching C-SPAN...
Earlier this week, the U.S. Senate passed the Protect College Sports Act, an attempt to create a federal framework around NIL, revenue sharing, transfers, eligibility, athlete representation and more. The most important thing to know: nothing changes today. The bill is not law, it has simply now moved to the House. I broke down what athletes and families should know in my full two page briefing here.
One of the best parts of our job is taking everything we learn from navigating this landscape every day and sharing it with the next generation of athletes. I had the opportunity to speak at the adidas Jr. All-American Camp this month. Getting in front of young athletes and their parents to talk about recruiting, NIL, eligibility and the decisions ahead is something I never take for granted.
If you're interested in having me speak to your school, team, athletes or families, give me a shout. The earlier we can educate before important decisions have to be made, the better prepared everyone will be!
FreeGame Client Corner
September brought some exciting milestones across the FreeGame roster, starting with a big congratulations to Philipe Ndong, who officially committed to Marquette University!
I've had the opportunity to work closely with Philipe and the Ndong family throughout his recruitment, and it has been fun watching the process develop. He's had great high school and AAU coaches to support his growth, and as he continued to improve throughout the spring and summer, his recruitment grew with him.
Our goal is never simply to find the biggest offer or biggest name. It is to help our clients and families gather the right information, evaluate each opportunity and ultimately find the best fit for development and future.
